Restrictive covenants can be enforced by employers against employees - provided that  those contractual clauses are no wider than are necessary to protect the legitimate business interests of the employer.   To be enforceable, the wording must be exactly right, so it's important that you have a carefully drafted clause in the employment contract.

We regularly advise both employers and employees on restrictive covenants in employment contracts, both before and after a dispute arises. We also give advice on their enforceability and can prevent employees  from unlawfully competing with their former employers, including providing  assistance with injunction applications.

Our experience  in this area has included appearing in the High Court and Court of Appeal, and we have particular  knowledge of restrictive covenants in the financial services sector, where we advise financial advisers on their use.
